Planning IT infrastructure from the ground up for Ian's most ambitious project to date.

Ian Stroud founded Pet People as his most ambitious project yet. We planned the technology from the ground up before opening, so it worked from day one, and four and a half years on we are still their IT partner across both sites.

01 · THE CHALLENGEWhat the practice was facing.

Ian Stroud is not new to opening practices. He set up his first in 2010. Pet People is something else, though: his most ambitious project to date, a brand-new practice built around a clear idea of the kind of experience he wanted for his clients, his patients and his team.

Most IT only gets involved once the building is nearly finished, fitting technology around decisions that have already been made. Ian wanted to do it the other way round. He came to us several months before Pet People opened, so the systems, the processes and the whole customer journey could be planned together, from the ground up, rather than changed afterwards.

That meant getting the foundations right before a single client walked in: how the team would log in, how the practice would stay online, how everyone would communicate, and how it would all keep working as Pet People grew to a second site.

WHAT WE DID · ACROSS THE PRACTICE

7 places. 7 fixes.

The practice is a connected system, every fix had to land without disrupting clinical hours. Each card below is one part of the engagement.

00

Planned from the ground up, before opening.

Ian came to us several months before Pet People opened. We worked through the systems, the processes and the whole customer journey together, so the technology was designed around the plans rather than bolted on afterwards.

01

No server on site. Everything on Microsoft 365.

We built the practice on Microsoft 365 rather than a local server, so there is nothing in a cupboard to fail. Everyone logs into any computer with one secure account, with email, files and identity in one place.

02

An intranet that worked from day one.

Ian had previously spent months designing and building his own intranet. We gave Pet People a ready-made system on SharePoint that worked from the day they opened, and improved on what they had before.

03

Communication that keeps the team connected.

Better communication across the practice, so Ian can stay in touch with the team when he is away or when people are working different shifts.

04

Resilient internet and a full network.

Business broadband with automatic 4G backup, plus a 34-point Ubiquiti UniFi network with WiFi 6 for full coverage. Devices, internet phones, scan-to-file printing, CCTV and a waiting-room screen all set up and ready.

05

Regular reviews that look ahead.

We don't just keep things as they are. Regular reviews catch problems early and plan for the future, keeping Pet People on top of its systems, its security and anything that could be improved. It is the forward-thinking approach Ian values most.

06

Fast, responsive support, every day.

Pet People is looked after by our managed IT service: quick to respond and efficient at resolving issues, which is exactly what a busy practice needs day in, day out.

I got in touch several months before we opened, so I could plan everything from the ground up with Jack: our systems, our processes, our whole customer journey. We weren't trying to change something afterwards, it was all built around the plans.
